GTA 6 Trailer Records: 90M and 475M Views in 24 Hours
✦ Last updated August 30, 2026
GTA 6 has two trailers and both set records. Trailer 1 (December 2023) drew roughly 90 million views in 24 hours and earned three Guinness records; Trailer 2 (May 2025) drew 475 million in 24 hours, which Rockstar described as the biggest video launch of all time. Trailer 3 has not been released — the reported official response on July 27, 2026 was simply "wait".

The record table
| Record | Trailer 1 | Trailer 2 |
|---|---|---|
| 24-hour views | ~90 million | 475 million |
| Recognised by | Three Guinness records | Rockstar's "Biggest Video Launch of All Time" statement |
| Cumulative | 268 million by Nov 2025 | — |
| Longest-standing claim | Most-viewed game trailer on YouTube | Biggest video launch at time of release |
| Footage type | Cinematic reveal | All in-game, recorded on PS5 |
The two headline figures measure the same thing — first-24-hour viewership — and they differ by more than five times. That gap is the central fact of GTA 6's marketing story.
"The Biggest Video Launch of All Time" — Rockstar's own description of the Trailer 2 video launch (source: Rockstar video-launch statement, 2025-05-06).
Trailer 1 — December 4-5, 2023
| Metric | Figure |
|---|---|
| 24-hour views | ~90 million |
| Cumulative by November 2025 | 268 million |
| Guinness records | Three |
| Length | 1:31 |
| Circumstance | Released early after a leak forced Rockstar's hand |
Trailer 1 broke records before most people had even processed that a new GTA existed. Three Guinness records and the most-viewed-game-trailer position on YouTube made it the benchmark against which every subsequent marketing beat would be measured.
Two caveats on this record. First, the 24-hour figure is approximate at roughly 90 million — some coverage rounds it, which is why you see slightly different numbers. Second, the cumulative figure is the one to quote: 268 million by November 2025, not the older "250 million+" approximation that still circulates.
Trailer 2 — May 6, 2025
| Metric | Figure |
|---|---|
| 24-hour views | 475 million |
| Length | 2:47 |
| Footage | All in-game, recorded on PlayStation 5 |
| Music tracks | Four |
| Award | Best Game Trailer, Golden Joystick 2025 |
| Rockstar's framing | Biggest video launch of all time |
Trailer 2 is the outlier. A 475-million first-day figure for a video game trailer is not a marginal improvement on the previous record; it is a different order of magnitude.
It is also the more verifiable of the two, for one reason: Rockstar officially confirmed it was all in-game footage recorded on PlayStation 5. That single confirmation converted the trailer from a marketing asset into evidence about how the game looks.
Why the jump is so large
Three factors explain the five-fold increase, and none of them is "the trailer was better".
Audience accumulation. Trailer 1 created the audience that Trailer 2 inherited. Between December 2023 and May 2025, the game's official channels grew substantially — Rockstar's X account alone sits above 20 million followers — and a trailer released into that audience starts with far more distribution than the one that created it.
Two-year demand build-up. The gap between the trailers was roughly 17 months. Trailer 2 landed at the end of a long informational drought, when accumulated search and social demand had nowhere to go.
Platform distribution. Streaming, embedding and cross-posting norms in 2025 push view counts higher than they were in 2023, particularly in the first 24 hours when algorithmic promotion is strongest.
| Factor | Effect |
|---|---|
| Larger subscribed audience | Higher baseline reach at launch |
| 17-month information gap | Concentrated demand on release day |
| Distribution norms and embedding | Faster early view accumulation |
None of this diminishes the record. It explains why a 24-hour comparison between the two trailers is not a like-for-like contest.
What the records do and do not tell you
| The record tells you | The record does not tell you |
|---|---|
| Marketing reach is unprecedented | Whether the game will be good |
| Rockstar's distribution is unmatched | How the game performs technically |
| Public awareness is extremely high | What the map or systems are like |
| Launch-day attention will be enormous | Whether the PC version is coming soon |
The distinction matters because view counts get cited in arguments about the game's quality. They are a marketing metric. The confirmed systems and the 30fps performance target are what actually describe the product.
Trailer 3 status
Not released. Netflix's "An Extended Look" (around August 27, 2026, 26:48 of gameplay) has been widely read as the de-facto gameplay reveal, and some outlets call it the third and final trailer — a framing choice, not a separate Rockstar release. Rockstar's reported answer to Trailer 3 questions (July 27, 2026) was "wait".
We track that distinction on our Trailer 3 page and log every dated official beat on our official timeline.
Common misconceptions
"Trailer 2 has 475 million total views." No. 475 million is the 24-hour figure. Cumulative totals are a different number and are not the same claim.
"Trailer 1 has 250 million views." That figure is outdated. The number as of November 2025 is 268 million.
"The 475 million figure was verified by Guinness." Trailer 1's three Guinness records are the recognised ones. Trailer 2's headline figure comes from Rockstar's own video-launch statement.
"More views means a better game." View counts measure marketing reach. They carry no information about quality or performance.
