What happened

  • 2026-08-18: gameplay and map material leaked; Rockstar began DMCA countermeasures.
  • 2026-08-23: a manifesto threatened a "playable build" within days — with crypto promotion and fake downloads distributed malware.
  • Take-Two sent subpoenas to platform providers; consumer groups publicly warned players.

How to stay safe

  1. Never download leaked or "playable" builds — overwhelmingly fake, often malware.
  2. Buy only from official platform stores (see where to pre-order).
  3. Official sources only: Rockstar Newswire, @RockstarGames, YouTube.
